Interstate Crime Enforcement deputies confiscated 51 pounds of high quality marijuana valued at $100,000 during a traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 24, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s supervisor said.

Driver Jevondias Davis, 30, of Atlanta and passenger Lamont Rashid, 34, of Ellenwood, Ga., were charged with possession with intent to manufacture, deliver or sale more than 10 pounds of marijuana, said ICE Lt. Chris Haynes.

Deputy Travis Perusse stopped Davis for a traffic violation about 2 p.m. on I-24. While talking to the driver, Perusse found indicators of criminal activity.

“Deputy Bo Davis did an exterior scan with his K-9 where he was given a positive alert for drug odor,” Lt. Haynes reported.

Deputies seized the high-quality marijuana and $10,700 cash during a search of the vehicle, the lieutenant said. The marijuana was destined for Nashville.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said the ICE deputies did an excellent job in detecting the suspicious activity and investigating.

“We work very hard to stop these illegal scourges of drugs from being distributed in our county,” Sheriff Arnold said.

Davis and Rashid were booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where they were released on $10,000 bond. A hearing is set July 29 in General Sessions Court.
