A 2-year-old boy was revived after a near drowning Wednesday on Roy Arnold Road, said a supervisor from Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

He was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, said Sgt. Chris Kauffman.

The boy had been swimming in the family’s 4-foot above ground pool earlier in the afternoon and came inside. Later, his father was in the restroom and his grandmother was watching TV when they didn’t see the boy. They found him face down in the pool.

“He had not been in the water long,” Sgt. Kauffman said.

The family started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Deputy Christian Wrather arrived and continued CPR. The boy tried to breathe. Paramedics from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services worked on the boy.

“He screamed and cried,” Sgt. Kauffman said.

LifeFlight medical employees continued treatment of the boy.
