2014 MPD Crime Stats: Overall Crime Down 4%, Homicides Up 133%

Murfreesboro Police officials released a report that shows overall reports of "Part I" crimes to police in 2014 decreased by 4% from 2013. Crime data indicates there were decreases in six areas of reportable crime and increases in two. Those were burglaries, which increased by one from 745 in 2013 to 746 in 2014. The other was in homicides, which increased from three in 2013 to seven in 2014. That's an increase of 133-percent.

Decreased were reported in six catagories: rape, robbery, assault, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson.

Officers responded to 108,687 calls for service in 2014, which equates to about 297 calls per day, a six-point-six percent increase over 2013. Officers and detectives were responsible for over 12-thousand criminal charges, a 3% increase over 2013.
