2016 Independence Day Celebration in Smyrna, TN

On Friday, July 1 st , music, food & fun activities will be at the Lee Victory Recreation Park for the annual Smyrna Independence Day Celebration. Beginning at 5pm at the Rec Park, which is located at 102 Sam Ridley Parkway (Smyrna, TN), kids can play on the inflatable playgrounds or take a train ride provided by C&R Railroad.

This year's event is dedicated to the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and Marine Captain Jeff Kuss for his service and sacrifice. The first 2000 people to enter the event at Lee Victory Recreation Park will receive a memorial pin. The community will also be able to donate to the Jeff Kuss Memorial Fund which will go towards the future memorial to honor Captain Kuss.

The Blue Angels Family lost Captain Kuss following the tragedy of a plane crash in Smyrna on June 2nd that took the life of Marine. All six Blue Angels aircraft were practicing for the Great Tennessee Airshow when Captain Kuss' aircraft went down shortly after take off in a field between the Sam Davis Home and the Smyrna-Rutherford County Airport. Kuss died while flying a US Navy Blue Angels F/A-18 jet on June 2, 2016.

Bring a picnic lunch or buy from any of the on-site concessions and enjoy live music from The Nick Carver Band. Then get ready for one of Smyrna's highlights of the year, the annual Fireworks show.

The following roads will be closed between 9:00pm - 9:45pm due to the fireworks show:

  • Sam Ridley at Fitzhugh Boulevard
  • Sam Ridley at Nolan Drive
  • Sam Ridley at Threet Industrial Road
  • Sam Ridley, west of Nolan Drive
