A 40-year old man charged with the attempted rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery has been indicted by the September Grand Jury. Enrique R. Martinez allegedly fondled a 12-year old girl who had fallen asleep on his couch. His relationship to the young girl was not released by police when the incident was reported. When the child awoke by being touched, Martinez reportedly undid his pants and asked the girl to touch him. The child said no and grabbed a fork to protect herself from Martinez.
Police say that they were not able to confirm Martinez’s real age because he had no valid form of ID in his possession. Martienz told them he was 40 and that he lives on Benley Street in Murfreesboro.

In an unrelated case, Joseph Sallaj allegedly met a 12-year old girl at the Stones River Mall. The two reportedly left the mall together and headed to Sallaj’s home on West Clark Boulevard where the two allegedly had intercourse. The incident reportedly occurred this past March, but the girl waited to May to come forward with the details.
The young child told a Department of Children’s Service worker about the incident and the case was then forwarded to the Murfreesboro Police Department. According to police, Sallaj admitted to the accusations during a police interview. The 19-year old was charged with two counts of rape of a child. Sallaj was also indicted on a DUI charge.
