You know spring is around the corner when MTSU Baseball holds it's annual Groundhog Day Luncheon. Now in its 45th year, Baseball Coach Jim McGuire tells NewsRadio WGNS this Friday's crowd may be the largest ever:
The luncheon serves as a kickoff to the upcoming season while also reflecting on the history of Blue Raider baseball. Coach McGuire is excited about the upcoming 2018 campaign:
During the luncheon, it was announced former Blue Raider and retired major leaguer Michael McKenry will become the director of player development for the baseball team. McKenry spent 12-years in the majors before retiring this past season.
Middle Tennessee baseball will host 31 games this season, including the annual Mule Mix Classic (Feb. 23-25) against Fairleigh Dickinson, Indiana State and Kent State. Season tickets can be purchased online at goblueraiders.com or by calling the MTSU ticket office.
The 2018 recipient of the Railbird jacket is Wynnifred Counts. This award is decided on strictly by the head coach, and when the winner is announced--it's a surprise to everyone in the room.
