67th Blackman Barbecue is Friday

The 67th Annual Blackman Barbecue will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Lane Agri-Park, 315 John R. Rice Boulevard, in Murfreesboro.

Tickets are being sold now by Blackman Community Club members and will be available at the door. Proceeds go for upkeep of the Blackman Community Center, the scholarship, play ground fund and various service projects throughout year.

Traditional food is Smoked Pork BBQ on site by Country Cajun Catering/B & T's Cajun Country Catering, white beans, slaw, chips and tea with homemade desserts for sale.

There will be hotdogs available for children. In addition to dinner the event includes live music by Pork & Beans, dancing by Cripple Creek Cloggers, a live auction by Auctioneer Steve Sandlin and a more.

There will be many activities for children including an corn hole, balloon art, clown, face painting, tattoos, air brush tattoos, cake walk, ring toss and much more. The Rutherford County Fire department and Sheriff's department will be present with special things for the kids.

The Blackman Barbecue was conceived by the Blackman Community Club in 1949 to raise funds for a clubhouse and grounds. Over time the event has grown and the community center has flourished as a place for community meetings, family reunions and for children to play.

All proceeds from this event go towards the building and ground maintenance, playground improvements, scholarship fund and several other community service projects we throughout the year.

The club meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm for pot luck and 7:00pm begins the business meeting and occasionally an educational speaker. You can visit blackmancommunityclub.com for more details about how to become a member.
