The caller introduced himself as Lt. Collins with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and the victim fell for it, for a minute.

The fictitious Lt. Collins informed the 76 year old woman that she had missed a federal court date for jury duty in Nashville and that she needed to pay a bond for "Failure to Appear and Criminal Contempt." The subject then told the potential victim to obtain prepaid cards totaling $1,900 and then send him the numbers on the cards.

Without hesitation, the victim purchased the cards to give the subject on the other end of the line. She then felt as if she was being scammed, so she called the police. Luckily, she called the police before giving out the card numbers.

She now has $1,900 on pre-paid gift cards which she will be able to use as cash because she never gave the numbers to the culprit.

As reported in the past, if you missed a court date of any kind law enforcement will not be calling you and asking you to purchase pre-paid debit or gift cards.
