The Special Kids race is quickly approaching. On Saturday, March, 17, 2018, at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, Special Kids is planning for 3,000 participants in the 15K, 5K and one mile family fun run.

"Registration is filling up quickly", shares Charlie Apigian, Special Kids race director.

Runners and walkers will have the opportunity to participate in one of three race distances on-site: 15K, 5K or one mile family fun run. The event welcomes all levels of participants and encourages the whole family to get involved. Race fees are $45 for the 15K, $40 for the 5K and $20 for the one mile family fun run. A "Virtual Runner" option is also available for $25 if a participant would still like to be involved but cannot attend on the actual race day. Registration is open online at SpecialKidsRace.org.

Beyond entrance to the event, race participants will receive a soft-style t-shirt, race medal and additional race swag from MMC and our partners. For the seventh year, all race expenses are covered by sponsors, allowing funds from registration fees to directly benefit children with special needs at Special Kids.

The race is an annual fundraiser for the local nonprofit Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center. The race revenue is 20% of the $1.4 million dollars needed annually to help keep operations up and running at Special Kids. Race participants, teams, and even individuals not running or walking can additionally help children with special needs by joining "impact Special Kids", an online fundraising community that helps supporters turn their creative fundraising ideas into a reality. Impact members can participate as individuals or create their own team.

"We are really looking forward to our seventh year of this event," says Stephanie Folkmann, Special Kids director of development. "Our hope is that the community will take hold of this fundraising opportunity to come together for the kids."
