WGNS Radio in Murfreesboro will broadcast a recording of The Center for the Arts' production of 'A Christmas Carol' as part of the station's holiday programming on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The broadcasts on the WGNS network - FM 100.5, FM 101.9 and AM 1450 - are set for 10 p.m. Christmas Eve (Sunday night, Dec. 24) and 10 a.m. Christmas Day (Monday morning, Dec. 25). Listeners can also enjoy a podcast of "A Christmas Carol" on the station's website, wgnsradio.com, or through the WGNS smart phone app.

It will be a historic first for both the Murfreesboro Arts Center and the station, marking the first time a local theater production will be aired. It is possible because the classic holiday favorite, written by Charles Dickens in 1843, is in the public domain.

Audience demand for the production was overwhelming, as the center sold out every seat for every show in the run from Dec. 1 to Dec. 17. Center Director Patience Long said the WGNS broadcasts will give another chance to experience the work of her volunteer cast and crew.

"These broadcasts will be a Christmas gift to our community and a true honor for our volunteers," Long said. "We deeply appreciate this opportunity for our center to extend this wonderful show to even more patrons of the arts."

Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame broadcaster Bart Walker, owner of WGNS, said he was happy the station could further spread Christmas cheer through the broadcasts.

"WGNS, like so many in our community, is proud to support The Center for the Arts and we're happy our station can help extend this show's remarkable run," he said.
