A new Assistant Chief of Police has been named in Murfreesboro

The Murfreesboro Police Department recently announced the promotion of Eric Cook to Assistant Chief of Police.

Assistant Chief Cook started his law enforcement career in 1987 as a police officer for the City of Murfreesboro. Cook worked as a Patrol Officer and Vice Officer prior to being promoted to Sergeant in 1994. He was next promoted to Lieutenant where he served in both the Uniformed Division and the Vice Section of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He was promoted in 2010 and again in 2011 to Captain and Major over the CID respectively. Cook has several commendations in his personnel file including perfect attendance, and the apprehension of a dangerous criminal. He is a 2006 graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command.

"Eric Cook will become an excellent addition to the executive staff of the MPD," said Chief of Police Glenn Chrisman. "Assistant Chief Cook will bring extensive experience in law enforcement, especially in administration and operational capabilities, to the position. We believe he will continue to be an excellent leader for the MPD in this new role."

The Assistant Chief is responsible for the Administrative Services and Operations Divisions including Communications, Office of Professional Responsibility, Personnel, School Safety, Training, Grants, Accreditation and Policy Development.

"I am excited for this opportunity to serve in this new capacity and will work to continue building relationships internally as well as with members of the community," said Assistant Chief Cook. "The MPD has many exciting projects currently underway and more on the horizon. This is a great time to make a difference in our community and I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead."
