A Trio of Laureates Introduced

They are your neighbors, friends and maybe you don't always recognize their faces but certainly, you will know their work.

On Tuesday night in Murfreesboro City Council Chamber, Vice Mayor Madelyn Scales Harris introduced a trio of laureates for the city including Photography Laureate, Gale Stoner; Poet Laureate, Kory Wells; and Painter Laureate, Ashley Buchanan.

After a successful 21-year career in the Air Force and then as a professional speaker for over two decades, Gale Stoner returned to his passion for photography.

Most of his time is spent photographing farmland, forests, waterfalls, mountains he said "I like to photograph subjects that strike a personal note with me. There is added enjoyment when my image brings pleasure and delight to others. I believe there is an advantage in not limiting myself to one genre."

KORY WELLS is the author of HEAVEN WAS THE MOON, poetry from March Street Press, she also performs her poetry on the album Decent Pan of Cornbread, a collaboration with her daughter, old-time musician Kelsey Wells. Her writing appears in print and online publications both nationally and abroad, including Christian Science Monitor, James Dickey Review, Ruminate, and The Southern Poetry Anthology. She is the founder and frequent host of Poetry in the Boro.

Painter Laureate, Ashley Buchanan is CEO of Creative Movements, who describes herself as a creative artist, filmmaker, designer.

She said "I started Creative Movements with a big dream that I could create freely and not be limited to how I could create. Creative Movements is all about freedom and freedom of expression. Creative Movements has no bounds and brings art, film, media, and design to a whole new weird...Mixing medias and creating new concepts. I want to challenge ideas and provoke thought while inspiring others to do the same...While wearing glasses."
