MURFREESBORO - Additions to the current school facilities at Smyrna Elementary and Blackman Middle School are on target to open for fall classes in August. County Mayor Ernest Burgess talks about the Blackman Middle School addition, which is something that hasn't been done in the county before...

The addition is a seperate building, beside the current main campus, and will be used for only sixth graders...

The sixth grade annex at Blackman Middle will have its own gym, cafeteria and offices for administration. Burgess says millions can be saved by adding up to 450 seats instead of building a new school...

Blackman Middle will be the first to try this new sixth grade annex concept, but Burgess says with overcrowding at other schools like Oakland Middle, there could be more down the road in the future.
