"Agreement In Principle" For City Manager Craig Tindall

There was thought that a new city manager would be officially announced at Thursday (5/24/2018) night's Murfreesboro City Council meeting, but Interim City Manager Jim Crumley said, "We have just completed an agreement in principle for the new city manager, but I want to make certain the council has enough time to study the contract before voting on it."

Interim City Manager Jim Crumley explained, "An agreement with Mr. Tindall was not reached until shortly before that council meeting. I didn't feel it was right to bring an issue that dramatically impacts our community before the council and not allow them proper time to study the contract."

The salary for Tindall will be approximately $180,000 annually. That is slightly higher than Rob Lyons' previous salary of $173,813.

As you recall, as a part of Lyons' severance, he was paid half of his salary for a six-month period. Reports indicate, a similar agreement is in Tindall's new contract, should the city council decide to remove him from office without cause.

Craig Tindall's agreement must be approved by the Murfreesboro City Council. That is expected to be considered at a council meeting in early June.

NewsRadio WGNS asked Tindall what his main objectives would be in his new position . . .

Then the question arose as to whether or not a change in property taxes might be in our future . . .

The topic turned to Tindall's thoughts on improving the "first impression" made on visitors who visit Murfreesboro's historic downtown area . . .

According to the special interim census that was submitted to the state during the first quarter of 2018, Murfreesboro's population is now 128,225. That's an increase of 19,194 residents in the seven-years since the last population count of 109,031.

One of the questions raised during a city public opinion pole was that downtown Murfreesboro does not give the image of a city with that many residents. A massive renovation, which included the recently opened Rutherford County Judicial Center and multi-level parking garage are a part of that expansion of the uptown foot print.

New City Manager on WGNS Tuesday Morning

By the way, Craig Tindall along with Interim City Manager Jim Crumley will be on the WGNS' Action Line this coming Tuesday morning (5/30/2018) from 8:10-9:00AM.
