The Rutherford County Farmer's Market has free classes that begin at 9 a.m. in the Lane Agri-Park Community Center each Tuesday and Friday while the market is open. The Lane Agri-Park Community Center is located at 315 John R. Rice Blvd.

The classes this week will cover the basics of sheep and goat production and the weather.

July 15

"Small Ruminate Care" is the topic on Tuesday, July 15. It will be presented by Extension Agent Michael Shirley, beginning at 9 a.m. "During our class, I will cover the basics of sheep and goat production and provide participants the research-based resources they need to be more successful with their small ruminate operations. I’ve seen many people make management mistakes that cost them a great deal of time and money. With proper planning, any of these mistakes can easily be avoided.” This class is to help avoid those mistakes. Be dressed to go to the barn.

July 18

On Friday, July 18, the topic is "Let's talk About the Weather." This class starts at 9 a.m. as well. Meteorologist Brittney Coleman from the Nashville office of NOAA. "My talk will cover a variety of subjects including weather safety, Middle Tennessee Climate information, and local severe weather events.My duties at the office include forecasting, radar operator and range from sending up a weather balloon to issuing Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado warnings." This is a class for all citizen scientists.
