Another heroin overdose has been reported in Murfreesboro... This is about the third in the past two months that police have been called to in the city limits.

In the most recent case on Monday (5/1/17), a friend of the subject called for help when his friend fell unresponsive. Once the 31 year old man was revived at the hospital, he told police that he was using heroin.

An arrest was not made, but the drug user was able to recover.

In a 2016 news article by the American Society of Addictive Medicine that outlined opioid addiction, it was noted that 12,990 heroin overdose deaths were reported in 2015 across the United States. The same article also said, "94% of respondents in a 2014 survey of people in treatment for opioid addiction said they chose to use heroin because prescription opioids were "far more expensive and harder to obtain."

In other words, many people in the U.S. continue to ditch painkillers and switch to heroin because it is becoming more readily available on the streets.
