Murfreesboro has lost another legend. Dr. William Schacklett passed away at NHC on Tuesday morning (10/9/2012). This was just barely over 4-weeks after his wife of 70-plus years died. Minerva Cowan Shacklett died September 2, 2012.
The local physician got the nickname of "3 shot Shacklett" reportedly for his treatment of colds. He was just a few weeks shy of reaching age 95.
Long after his retirement, Dr. Shacklett and his wife Minerva continued to be actively involved in their community and church. In fact, the couple went on a South Dakota mission trip with their church family when they were in their 80s. Those who were in attendance were amazed at how the couple were able to hike around the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation without problem.
The funeral arrangements for Dr. William Shacklett are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Woodfin Funeral Chapel. His family are longtime members of Murfreesboro's First Presbyterian Church.
