“I’m running to restore fiscal discipline to the Sheriff’s Office”, said Asbury, “and to return a spirit of leadership, integrity and stability to the citizens of Rutherford County, and the employees at the Sheriff’s Office.” In his statement, Asbury continues:

“In 1978, I joined the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Since that time, I have seen Rutherford County grow, and change. I have witnessed both positive and negative changes to the community we love, and I have helped out when and where I could. Like you, I care about this community. I care about the safety of its residents, and I care that our tax money is spent wisely and effectively.

For over 35 years, I have dedicated my career to law enforcement, and criminal justice. I’ve worked as a narcotics detective, a patrol commander, and administrator of one of the largest county jails in Tennessee. I’ve prepared conservative, balanced budgets, and managed hundreds of personnel. I am a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, which is completed by less than 1% of the nation’s law enforcement officers. Following my retirement from the Sheriff’s Office in 2010, I have served as a Court Security Officer at the Federal Courthouse in Nashville. I have twice been appointed by the County Commission to serve on the Correctional Work Center Board of Directors.

Today, I am announcing the next step in my heritage of public service. I am announcing that I will be a candidate for Rutherford County Sheriff in the Republican primary election on May 6, 2014.

In the coming weeks and months, you’ll hear more from me about my background, my qualifications, and my vision as you consider giving me the opportunity to serve as your next Sheriff.”

Asbury plans to announce his Campaign Steering Committee by the end of November, and also invites all Rutherford Countians to his Campaign Kickoff and Pizza Party, which will be held Saturday, November 30th, from 1 to 5 at the Murfreesboro Lions Clubhouse at Historic Cannonsburgh.
