While Blackman's potent offense had its bright spots, it was their defense that had a break out game in a 42-10 win over rival Smyrna.

Leading 21-10 at the half, the Blaze scored early in the third quarter to extend their lead. But the defense was just getting started. They allowed only 45-yards of total offense in the second half and held the Bulldogs scoreless. They had two sacks and several plays for negative yards.

Offensively, Blackman played without Ohio State commitment Master Teague in the backfield the final three quarters. He went out with a tweaked ankle. Senior Cordell Braxton was more than capable. He had 142 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Conner Mitchell continues to shine. He was 11-of-16 passing for 149 yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing. They racked up 405 yards of total offense.

Smyrna had only 42-yards rushing on the night. Quarterback Alex Bannister was 8-of-19 passing for 152 yards, including a 64-yard bomb to Blake Watkins for a touchdown. Watkins ended the night with 13-carries for 55-yards and had 88-yards receiving.

The Blaze improve to 4-0 and will travel to Siegel next Friday in Region 3-6A play. The Bulldogs, who drop to 2-2, will host Overton in Region 5-6A action.

Blackman RB Cordell Braxton: 18-carries for 142 yards and a touchdown.

Smyrna RB/WR Blake Watkins: 13-carries for 55-yards. Also, he had 88-yards receiving, including a 64-yard touchdown catch.
