Blackman & Oakland to Open 2015 at MTSU vs. Alabama Powers

Even though we are deep into the 2014 football season, plans are already being made for games next season. And it will kick off in Rutherford County with two games, played at MTSU's Floyd Stadium. Blackman will play Clay-Chalkville, Alabama, and Oakland will battle Hoover, Alabama, on Saturday, August 22nd.

Clay-Chalkville is currently the number one team in 6A football in the state of Alabama. Hoover is number one in 7A in the state.

Blackman coach Philip Shadowens tells NewsRadio WGNS he believes this is something that will become an opening week tradition, involving the best Rutherford County football teams playing some of the biggest programs in the Southeast...

Since game contracts in Tennessee are done on a two-year basis, Blackman and Oakland will play it in the first two years. But Shadowens says the opponents and future Rutherford County teams will participate over the years...

Since the game will be the week before college football starts, the expectation for large crowds to watch national prep football powers play at Middle Tennessee State University was the driving force to begin planning the event. The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and a group of community leaders will be spearheading the event's planning year in and year out.
