'Boro Construction To Avoid Through May 31st

Murfreesboro is the tenth fastest growing city in the US with a population over 100-thousand. Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran says that creates need for infrastructure improvement. Projects are underway across the city and here are the major areas to avoid today through May 31st.

City Construction Projects

Joe B Jackson Pkwy Construction Project (I-24 and S Church Street)

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday through Friday: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm:  Grading, utility and concrete curb work continuesin the Stevens Bend Subdivision area.  Storm drain construction work continues in the Stevens Bend Subdivision.  There will be incidental lane closures traffic interruptions for stone and concrete deliveries.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Overall Creek Elementary School Roadway Project (Veterans Pkwy at Mooreland Lane)

Expected Road Closures:  September 3rd 2013 through June 21st 2014:  Mooreland Lane at Veterans Pkwy closed in preparation for the new roadway construction and utility work.  All traffic to and from Veterans Pkwy and Mooreland Lane will be detoured through State Route 96 and Rucker Lane.  Proper traffic controls will be in place.

Veterans Pkwy aka Kimbro Road Widening Project (Barfield Road to Saint Andrews Drive)

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday through Friday6:30 am to 4:30 pm:  Public Utility (Electric) work continues along Veterans Pkwybetween Yeargen Rd and Barfield Rd.  Sidewalk work on the south side of Veterans Pkwyaround the Cason Lane area continues.  There will beincidental lane closures and traffic interruptions (trucks entering and exiting the job site). Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Southwest Force Main Project (W College Street/Old Nashville Highway)

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday through Friday:  Contractor for Water &Sewer Department will be installing force sewer main lines W College St/Old Nashville Highway between Thompson Laneand Gateway Blvd will be reduced to one lane with portable traffic signal operation.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday through Wednesday, 8:00 pm to 5:00 am:  There will be alternating lane closures on NW Broad Streetand W College Street for underground utility crossings.  Temporary signal installation work continues at Old Fort Pkwy and Kings Hwy.  There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions.  College Street at its intersection with Memorial Blvd/Burton Street is permanently closed.  College Street can still be accessed from the downtown area roadway network.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Murfreesboro Electric New Sub-Station Project (Rutherford Blvd just north of MTSU Blvd)

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm:  As part of new sub-station, the contractor for Murfreesboro Electric Department will be working on the utility poles along Rutherford Blvd between MTSU Blvd and Greenland Drive.  There will be alternating lane closures on Rutherford Blvd northbound and southbound during this work.  Traffic will be reduced from two lanes to one lane each direction.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Water & Sewer Department Sewer Rehabilitation Work

1)      Sulphur Springs Road between Ravenwood Dr and Haynes Drive

2)      Haynes Drive just west of Memorial Blvd

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 30:  The contractor for Water &Sewer Department will be performing sewer rehabilitation work on Sulphur Spring Drive between Ravenwood Drive and Haynes.  The center turn continuous lane on Sulphur Springs Road will be closed.  Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Sulphur Springs Road throughout the project with intermittent trafficinterruptions and flagging operationat intersecting streets.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.  On Wednesday, May 28, between 8 pm and 6 am, sewer rehabilitation work will be done on Haynes Drive just west Memorial Blvd.  Water &Sewer Department crews will also be working the following streets (Whitehall Dr and Apollo Dr).  Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operation.  Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Turn Lane Improvement Project (just north of NW Broad Street and Florence Road)

Expected Road Closures:  Tuesdaythrough Thursday8:30 am to 3:00 pm: Construction crews willbe constructing a left turn lane on NW Broad Street just north of Florence Road.  There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions on NW Broad Street.  Appropriate traffic controls and will be in place.
