CANNON COUNTY: Fire Scene Turns Into Crime Scene

November 3, 2009

image What first was thought to a simple fire has now turned into a crime scene in Cannon County. A call to 911 dispatchers Friday reported a fire on Hurricane Creek Road near Wilson Hollow Road. The Auburntown Fire Department responded and was assisted by Woodbury and Gassaway.

The fire had fully engulfed a garage and was spreading to a nearby camper. Only a few feet away stood a two-story house and the rear of the property was covered by woods. After the blaze was under control, Chief Chris Blackburn checked the vehicle identification number on a vehicle located behind the garage. The firefighters believed the vehicle was the origination of the fire.

The auto in question was listed by authorities as being involved in a car-jacking earlier in the day in Rutherford County. At this point members of the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department were requested.

The investigation continues as Cannon law enforcement works with Rutherford County on the case. – WBRY News
