Line-up announced for Old Timers’ Day

Country music singer T. Graham Brown will be the headline act for the 2010 Old Timers’ Day, Sept. 18 at Veteran’s Memorial Park.Among the songs Brown is known for are “Hell and High Water,” “Don’t Go to Strangers” and “Darlene”. His current CD is “The Present.” A greatest hits collection, “Déjà vu All Over Again,” was released in 2007.
Other acts on this year’s bill will be the Twelve South (11 a.m.), Kristina Craig (11:40 p.m.), Adeline (12:20 p.m.), Brother Boom (1:15 p.m.), Mason Douglas (1:55 p.m.) and Scott Smith (2:35 p.m.).
This year’s festival will be the 39th for the city. Chamber of Commerce Representative Carrie Smith will be the grand marshal for this year’s parade.
Old Timers’ Day 2010 is sponsored by the City of La Vergne, Bridgestone/Firestone, Dr. Arvind Patel DDS, First Tennessee Bank, Ingram Book, Tennessee Tourism, US Tae Kwon Do.

Twelve South will kick off the day’s festivities at 11 a.m. They will be followed by Kristina Craig (11:40 a.m.), Adeline (12:20 p.m.), Brother Boom (1:15 p.m.), Mason Douglas (2 p.m.) and Scott Smith (2:45 p.m.). T. Graham Brown, the day’s headliner, will perform at 4 p.m.This year’s event is slated for Sept. 18 at La Vergne’s Veteran’s Memorial Park, 115 Floyd Mayfield Drive.
The organizers are still looking for vendors as well as sponsors for the city’s largest event. Vendors should sign-up on-line at www.lavergne.org.

Church says they are hosting a youth conference to prepare students for new school year

The New Life Christian Church in Murfreesboro has issued a press release suggesting that they will hold a Youth Conference to prepare children for challenges they will face during an upcoming school year.
The three day event is centered around the theme “Soldiers for Christ”. During the conference, organizers are hoping to reinforce in participants hope, determination, courage and faith. The press release that WGNS received stated that tools will be taught that can later be used in the classrooms, playgrounds, and sports fields.
The conference is open to all youth ages 9 to 17. There is no registration fee, but everyone is asked to please register for the event. The 3-day conference will run Thursday, July 31st thru Saturday, August 2nd. The church is located at 343 Rucker Road in Murfreesboro (call 615-848-2194).

Section of Barfield-Crescent to be called Veterans Parkway

The names of roads in the Barfield Community may soon be changed. A section of Barfield-Crescent Road is in line to receive the name “Veterans Parkway”, a segment of Kimbro Road, in the same area, is also expected to receive the new “Veterans Parkway” name. In fact, the soon to be built Southwest / Northwest Loop in Murfreesboro will be known as Veterans Parkway once construction is complete.
