Flash Flood Watch Until through Wednesday Morning
August 25, 2008
The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a flash flood watch for a portion of Middle Tennessee, including Rutherford County. The watch will be in effect through Wednesday morning.
Tropical Depression Fay is expected to track northeast over northern Alabama and through Middle Tennessee Tuesday. Rainfall ahead of the storm should range from 2 to 5 inches. With rainfall totals as high as 5 inches, some streams and creeks will likely rise to near or above their banks on Tuesday. Low areas and urban areas will be most likely to flood.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. You should monitor WGNS forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
Heavy Rainfall Expected
August 25, 2008
Expect heavy rainfall through Tuesday night here in Rutherford County as the moisture from Tropical Depression Day moves across the area. The further south you go, the more rain that’s expected. We could receive up to four-inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. While the rainfall will spell welcome relief from drought conditions, heavy rain in a short amount of time could create flooding situations. Stay with WGNS for updates on our rainy forecast.
