NewsChannel 5 reports Kayla Velazquez was hit in face while sitting in the backseat of the vehicle. On their way back from Smyrna, the family reported hearing two loud booms and pulled over when realizing their child had been shot.

Velazquez was taken to Vanderbilt's Monroe Carroll Jr. Children's Hospital. The bullet entered her cheek and exited through her nose. She's reportedly in stable condition.

The other vehicle hit was a family and their eight-month old baby. No one in that vehicle was injured.

The shooter was reportedly hanging out of the front passenger window of an older, white Ford four-door car, when firing the shots. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
