COLD WEATHER: Snow Day Talk with Murfreesboro City Schools

With winter weather in the forecast this week, kids eagerly anticipate possible snow days. The voice parents of Murfreesboro City School children hear on the phone calling about weather altering class schedules is Lisa Trail. She's the spokeswoman for the city system.

Many people, including Director of Schools Dr. Linda Gilbert, take part in the decision of whether or not to close schools due to snow or ice. Trail says they make the call based on safety of their students...

They do hear some criticism when city school open and Rutherford County Schools remain closed...

Trail says the city's extended school program or E-S-P is open even if schools are closed. However, they do operate on a "snow schedule." A typical ESP day is 6am until 6pm. But the snow schedule would be 7am until 5pm.

If conditions are extremely hazardous, like we experienced last year, ESP could close. But Trail says that's only done in extreme circumstances because the children need a place to go...
