image The periods of cold weather is creating numerous home fires.  In fact, the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross has responded to  five fires and two mass care calls in the past week.  One of those is here in Rutherford County. A Christiana home was a total loss (photo: shows bedroom of burned house). Victims of two additional fires in Bedford County and two in Coffee County were assisted by the local Red Cross. Executive Director Greg King told WGNS News, “We operate with financial support from this community. With a cold winter being forecast, the Red Cross needs the support of individuals and businesses.” Special thanks to volunteers James Goodman,  Gene Williams, Chuck Riegel and Charles Spencer for their response to these fires.  A total of $2,590 was provided in direct financial assistance in the past seven days.
