CONDOM TRUCK: Missing in Action

A truck in Mexico City promoting HIV and AIDS awareness disappeared last Sunday and officials believe it was stolen. The truck, called the Condomovil, was hauling five thousand condoms, 800 HIV tests and a 23-foot inflatable condom. All told, the vehicle contained 19 thousand dollars worth of items to give away. The truck also features pictures of a banana shaped like a condom, alongside a man without a shirt saying, quote, “I protect myself. Do you?”The Condomovil has made its way around Mexico for the last decade in an effort to promote safe sex. So far, it has given out 1.2 million condoms to more than 700 thousand people.

In all seriousness, this is a tragedy: STDs take lives and reduce the quality of life of, in particular, the poor. Weird news or not, someone was doing a good thing that effected real people’s lives in a good way and that has been stopped - what a shame.
