Congressmen Meetings Nationwide - Hit With Unhappy Campers
August 7, 2009
Congressman from all over the country are being greeted with some not so friendly town hall meetings. Many of those in attendance are protesting all of the spending that is taking place in Washington, DC. In nearby Coffee County - protesters met with Lincoln Davis.
United States Representative Lincoln Davis hosted his sixth annual seminar Wednesday and Thursday at the Manchester Coffee County Conference Center. The seminar was an effort educate small businesses and local governments in the 4th District about contracting and grant opportunities. After a discussion with seminar attendees, the Congressman addressed a group of tea party protesters who assembled unannounced outside the Conference Center. Davis met the group on the steps and held what is being called an impromptu, unscripted town hall meeting.
Congressman Lincoln Davis stated, “These are tough times for America, and folks at home are concerned about the direction of our country.” “There are areas where we agree and some where we strongly disagree, but many of these folks came long distances to voice their opinions. In the end, we are all Americans and are working towards a common goal of a more perfect union.”
Congressman Davis met with the protesters to answer questions for over an hour and well into the evening after first day of his federal funding seminar concluded.
Here in Rutherford County, a meeting date for an upcoming town hall gathering with Congressman Bart Gordon has not been set. That information according to a recent visit to Gordon.House.Gov.
