It looks as if the Sheriff’s Department will likely receive the needed funding to hire additional officers to patrol county schools, but the money for the added manpower won’t arrive until this fall.

As a result of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in Connecticut, the Public Safety Committee of the Rutherford County Commission is in locked step with Sheriff Robert Arnold in placing a School Resource Officer (SRO) in every school that's under the direction of the county system.

Sheriff Arnold released these figures . . .

The county commission wants to take it a notch further and hire 13-new officers at a cost of $1.4-million. After the first year passes and new squad cars are purchased, the annual salary for 13-SRO’s will be just under $700,000.
