The Region 4-Triple-A girls quarterfinals were dominated by Rutherford County last (Friday) night. WGNS' Bryan Barrett has more...

The Riverdale girls went to Columbia and left no doubt they have more basketball to play. They whipped the Lady Lions 65-47 to advance to the quarterfinals. The Lady Warriors had seven three's in the first half and jumped out to a 15 point lead at the half. Columbia's second half comeback attempt was thwarted by a 13-to-two run by Riverdale to end the game. The Lady Warriors were streaky shooting, but when the shots didn't fall, they went to the free throw line, where they were 21-of-24 for 88-percent. They also dominated the Lady Lions with 42 total rebounds to Columbia's 29. Alexa Middleton had 23 points, Shelbie Davenport 18 and Hannah Pendergrass 12. Columbia, ranked fifth in the last Triple-A girls poll, sees their season end at the hands of number eight Riverdale.

The Lady Warriors will play number one Blackman Monday night at 7:30 with a region finals on the line and a sectional berth. The Lady Blaze torched Franklin County 55-to-8. The Lady Rebels only had 2 points at halftime.

The Smyrna girls get the season sweep of District 8-Triple-A Champion Shelbyville in the Walking Horse capitol of the world. The finals was 46-35 Lady Bulldogs, who also defeated the Lady Eagles twice in the regular season. Oakland, at home, versus Lincoln County had to withstand a second half surge by the Lady Falcons. However, the Lady Pats get the 54-47 win to advance to the semifinals. They'll play Smyrna Monday night at 6pm.

With the District 7 sweep of District 8, the girls semifinals and finals will be played at Siegel High School.

Tonight (Saturday), it's boys region quarterfinal action. Games include Smyrna at Columbia, Coffee County at Blackman, La Vergne at Franklin County and on WGNS, Lawrence County at Siegel. All games start at 7pm. Winners will advance to the semifinals Tuesday night. Same story applies. If District 7 sweeps their opponents, the boys tournament will move to Shelbyville. If that doesn't happen, the boys tournament will be held at Shelbyville.

The Middle Tennessee Christian girls see their season end, with a 52-46 loss at Houston County. The MTCS boys travel to East Robertson tonight (Saturday) in the first round of the Region 5-A tournament. If they win, they'll play district foe Forrest, who defeated McEwen last (Friday) night in boys.
