Entry Deadline Period CLOSED

This is the thirty-third year that WGNS, your Good Neighbor Station, has coordinated the Murfreesboro Christmas Parade, but there are several other groups investing their time and talents to make this annual community event a success.

Annual Christmas Parade Rules:

To all our participants:

We will be starting our county parade at exactly 2:00 pm. The start location for floats will be directly off of East Main Street near the entrance of MTSU. Your lineup will be confirmed via email on or about December 4, 2017. As true with last year, we have eliminated several types of wheeled entries for safety and insurance reasons. This will bring our parade in line with other parades as far as rules, but our entry fee is still staying low at only $12. The fee pays for parade insurance and signage used on the parade route or within the parade. No one is paid for their work with the parade, it is all volunteer based.

The deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 4PM - Entries should include a description of your tow vehicle or wheeled vehicle so that our volunteers can evaluate its safety for the parade route (if entering a float) to be accepted. If entering a customized or antique (25 yrs or older) car or truck you need to give a description or include a photo.

Vehicles

The following vehicles will no longer be in the parade: dump trucks, wreckers, race cars, tow trucks, no car clubs and no *individual street cars, trucks or vans. In addition go-carts, motorcycles, *ATV's and mini-bikes will no longer be allowed because they pose a danger to onlookers as well as participants. See Note below, only exception will be "IF" the ATV or other related vehicle is pulling a float.

Please do not arrive at the parade with any motorized or non-motorized vehicle as described above. Don't risk having disappointed children who are turned away because their entry includes any of the above. They won't be allowed in the parade. We absolutely don't want to eliminate anyone the day of the parade

*Note: Although we want to shorten the parade by cutting out the above vehicles we don't want to lose your participation. You may use a car, pick-up truck or van to pull a float. This can be a good opportunity for your business to participate. Vehicles that are 25 years or older or customized are allowed as are vehicles carrying pageant winners.

Rules Continued for 2017 Parade:

  • A float entry can be no longer than 45 feet from the front bumper of the towing vehicle to the back edge of the trailer. We will be measuring at check-in. This is to ensure the vehicle and float can safely make the turns on the square without hitting spectators that line the street in heavy numbers. Most of the spectators on the square are actually sitting in the roadway, which means large vehicles with trailers cannot make a wide enough turn safely, due to the spectators.

Candy Throwing Not Allowed:

Our insurance does not allow the throwing of candy. Does yours? Are you covered if someone falls off your entry while throwing candy? Are you covered if a child is hurt running out in the street to get candy? Is your business liable if you hit someone? Do not throw candy! Upon entering the parking lot, you will be asked if you have candy and reminded again to not throw it. If you do throw candy you will not be allowed to participate in the parade the following year, NO EXCEPTIONS.

GOOD "CANDY" NEWS:

You can "hand out" Just no throwing. To hand it out, you must have persons with your group walk alongside your float, not in front or behind float or vehicle.

Printed materials, samples, promotional giveaways:

  • No! No! No! This includes political and religious materials. No food (other than candy that is handed out), no coupons, no cups, nothing! All that wonderful stuff often turns to trash in yards, sidewalks and streets. Remember, the parade is not an advertising event.

Liability Release:

By registering online for the parade you are releasing liability, in consideration of being permitted to participate in the Christmas Parade Sunday, December 10, 2017. By entering, you are releasing liability from executors, administrators, assigns and volunteers. Furthermore, by registering for the parade, you hereby release and forever discharge the sponsors and volunteers from any and every claim, demand action or right of actions, of whatever kind of nature, either in law or in equity, arising from or by reason of bodily injury or personal injuries, known or unknown, death or property damage, resulting or to result from any accident which may occur as a result of participation or any activities in connection therewith, whether by negligence or not. By registering online, you agree to abide by all parade rules and regulations.
