An elderly Murfreesboro woman fell victim to a fraud situation that cost her over $21,000.

The victim told police that an acquaintance of hers named Joyce contacted her via FaceBook and told her that she had won the lottery on FaceBook. Of course in reality, there is no lottery on the social media site, but the victim did not know that.

The victim was told to contact someone by the name of Mildred Olson in Delaware about the winnings. She was then told by Olson that she needed to send $500 to an address in Nigeria, which she did.

When the Murfreesboro woman failed to receive her winnings, she was told by Ms. Olson to send another $8,500 for a police escort that would be bringing her the money. Of course, the money never showed.

In total, the 76 year old woman lost $21,500 to the unknown culprit. A police report shows that all transactions took place via FaceBook. So far, the victim has yet to see a dime and likely never will.
