Ever Thought About a Job Change and Becoming a Teacher?

June 8, 2010

A chemist, research scientist and physical therapist are among the group of over 25 individuals making a career change this summer to become a teacher through the Tennessee Department of Education’s Teach Tennessee program. Teach Tennessee is a statewide transitional licensure program that addresses the need for classroom teachers by challenging mid-career professionals, retirees and others to teach.

Governor Bredesen stated, “These types of focused, skilled, professional instructors are exactly what we need in the classroom as we move forward with implementation of the STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – initiatives of Race to the Top.”

One Response to “Ever Thought About a Job Change and Becoming a Teacher?”

My love for History, together with my Love for my country lead me to leave law enforcement and return to the University and earn my Tennessee Teacher’s License. When I actually became a teacher in a school that had been one of the choice Nashville High Schools in my day. I found that the teaching day was more concerned with crowd control, fight refereing, and trying to physically survive to see three o’clock. Then there was the jackass who set himself up as “shop steward” for the “Teacher’s Union” (the T.E.A. TENNESSEE EDUCATON ASSOCIATION was never set up yo be a “Union”) but certainly functioned as one preventing the jackass himself from being sacked, inspite of the fact that he could not teach or even hold a class’ attention for fifty minutes.

I would not ever wish to return to teaching under any circumstances.

Got something to say?
