Vintage base ball is the 19th century version of the pastime that America has come to know as baseball. The players will closely follow the rules and customs set in 1864 in Beadle’s Dime Base-Ball Player.

Re-enacting base ball as it was in the 19th century means no gloves or mitts, a single ball that is used throughout the entire game, and absolutely no sliding, because that wouldn’t be gentlemanly. Volunteer players wear period style uniforms and use vintage style bats reproduced in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

In addition to the game itself, fans can also enjoy period music by The Traveling Caudells and cheerleaders in period style dresses, as well as purchase TAoVBB merchandise. In addition, the Sam Davis Home will offer fans, bowler hats, bonnets, and other 19th century style goods. At the end of each game, kids are welcomed on field to run the bases.

Food vendors will be present at this final game serving hot dogs, frozen lemonade, ice cream, and other treats.

The Sam Davis Home and Museum will also be open for tours beginning at 11 a.m. on all game days. Fans are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and enjoy these free games that bring the history of baseball to life.

The Historic Sam Davis Home and Plantation is located at 1399 Sam Davis Road, Smyrna, TN 37167 and is a non-profit, historic house and museum.  For more information, including hours and admission rates, please call (615) 459-2341 or visit the website at www.samdavishome.org
