Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank's Executive Director Kimberly Honeycutt explained, "We are grateful for the 1,000 lbs. of potatoes from the SoSA Potato Drop. A donation of this magnitude goes a long way to help the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank distribute food, at no cost, to individuals, families and senior citizens who are currently in need until a more permanent solution is found."
She noted, "A potato is an exceptionally healthy low calorie, high fiber food. It is a good source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, potassium and dietary fiber."
The Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank also distributed potatoes to a network of other community agencies joining in the fight to end hunger.
The Society of St. Andrew is America's premier food rescue ministry. According to the group's website, it was formed in 1979 to introduce people to God's grace in Jesus Christ through meeting their hungers. Visit their website: http://endhunger.org/.
The potatoes were donated by the agricultural community.
