The Insurance Services Office (ISO) recently announced that Fosterville/Midland Fire Department in Rutherford County, TN has received a much improved Public Protection Classification.

The ISO analysis of the structure fire suppression delivery system serving the Fosterville/Midland area resulted in a class 5 rating. The former rating was a 9.

The Public Protection Classification is assigned after a comprehensive review of a community's fire department, communications system, and water supply. The ISO Field Representative spend time reviewing our fire districts equipment, record keeping, testing, training, public utilities, and Rutherford County Communications.

The new grading will result in a substantial savings to area homeowners and business' fire insurance with respect to what they are paying now. Specifically, every home and business located within 5 miles distance from both of the fire stations will receive a protection class 5 rating.

Station 1 is located at 1284 Fosterville Short Creek Rd. and Station 2 is located at 2517 Midland Fosterville Rd.

Reports indicate that residents have waited a long time for this and those in the service area are encouraged to contact their insurance providers to inform them of the new classification that will go into effect on May 1, 2018.

Fire Department Chief Jake Levine told WGNS by email:

"Years of hard work have gone into this! We are a 100% Volunteer department and the time that our members have to put into this has shown! I am so very proud of our department to reach this goal! I want to thank Rutherford County Mayor, Ernest Burgess, Rutherford County Commissioners, and all Rutherford County Agencies for your help and support over the years as we have worked towards this goal of a class 5 rating. The County provided us with a new Station in 2013 and a new tanker in 2016; which allows us to provide a better service and was also key in our new rating. I want to thank all of our members past and present and Board members who have worked on improving our department over the years."
