Another Publishers Clearing House scam has unfolded in Murfreesboro with a single telephone call. This time, the 57-year old victim was told she had just won, but the prize is pending her tax payment on one million dollars. The victim was told to pay $427.99 to receive the winnings.
In some cases, depending on your income bracket at the time of winning $1-million, the taxes can be as high as 39.6% or $396,000. In those cases, the tax is taken directly out of the winnings prior to the check being cut.
In this situation the victim was instructed to send in only the $427.99 via Western Union to receive her winnings. After sending the money, she never received the million dollars.
No arrest has been made.
