Gas prices actually dropped 3-cents at many Murfreesboro discounters, but remained stable across the Southeast for another week as January comes to a close. A gallon of regular gas can be found for $2.99 at many 'Boro outlets.

Both the national average and Southeast gas prices are below last year’s cost for a gallon of gas. U.S. inventories of crude oil rose for the first time last week after seven straight weeks of decreases, according to the Energy Information Administration.

"Pump prices are likely to remain stable for another couple of weeks until refineries begin the annual switch to the summer blend fuel,” said Jessica Brady, AAA spokesperson, The Auto Club Group.

The national average for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline is $3.29, the same as last week. Florida's average of $3.35 fell 2 cents from last week. Tennessee’s average of $3.09 and Georgia’s average of $3.21 both decreased 1-cent from last week.
