Bob Parks real estate agent and auctioneer Mimi Genet announced today that she will run in the Republican Primary for Rutherford County Register of Deeds. Genet previously worked in the Rutherford County Register of Deeds office in high school and college.

"I developed a passion for the office and being in the real estate business, where deeds are an integral part of buying and selling homes and commercial property, serving as Register of Deeds will bring my experience full circle," Genet said.

The Rutherford County Register of Deeds office is responsible for accurately and correctly recording deeds of trust for mortgaged properties, deeds of property for purchased properties, and release of properties, from mortgage holders to owners, for which mortgages have been fully paid - for every property, commercial and residential, in Rutherford County. "If a deed is not registered or recorded incorrectly, it can affect the financing of a property," Genet said.

"Activity in commercial and housing markets determines the level of activity for the Register of Deeds office and the amount of revenue generated for the County. As this office generates and manages County revenue, I believe the Rutherford County Register of Deeds staff is employed by anyone who walks through their door. If elected, I will work to ensure services are accurate, efficient and convenient for Rutherford County taxpayers," she said.

Genet has worked with Bob Parks Realty in Murfreesboro for 18 years and was the city's first female auctioneer. She is one of three finalists for a show about female auctioneers, working in a male-dominated business, to be produced by the entertainment network Bravo.

Prior to working in real estate, Genet worked for fellow Tennessean Jack Massey, a U.S. Business Hall of Fame inductee who was best known for acquiring Kentucky Fried Chicken from founder Harland Sanders, co-founding Hospital Corporation of America with Sen. Bill Frist, and growing the Winners Corporation into a dominant fast food franchise.

An avid antique enthusiast, Genet has three daughters and three grandsons and attends First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. She is a graduate of Riverdale High School and Middle Tennessee State University.
