Local nonprofit Special Kids announced Thursday that its Annual Friendraiser Banquet is a sold out event with over 500 guests expected to attend the dinner on Thursday, September 4, at World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro.

"At this time all tables are sponsored, and we've started a wait list for guests," said Kaitlin Gay, marketing specialist at Special Kids. "The community has banded together in support of this event to help it grow to be the biggest banquet in our history."

The banquet will feature special guest performer, Gordon Mote, blind pianist for the Gaither's Southern Gospel Band. Mote, blind since birth, has shared the stage with such popular performers as Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Rascal Flatts, Josh Turner, Carrie Underwood and famed Grand Ole Opry star, Porter Wagoner. Mote will be followed by Special Kids' own protégé, three-year-old Christian Buchanan of Woodbury. In 2011, Buchanan was born with a Tessier cleft lip and palate and cleft eyes, leaving him only to be able to see light and dark. A year later, Buchanan's mother Lacey Buchanan created a home-made video about Christian's story that went viral within weeks and reached millions of viewers. Today, Lacey and Christian Buchanan have over 220,000 Facebook fans who follow videos of the young Mozart picking on his own piano.

The Ramsey Family Foundation and Demos' Restaurant will present the event accompanied by supporting sponsors AdamsPlace, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and Surgicenter, and Ben Phillips with Northwestern Mutual. Underwriter sponsors include Tri-Star Title and Escrow, TNT Battery, Tennessee Pediatrics, and Beverly Davis with LPL Financial. Demos' Restaurant will provide a delicious dinner for guests who will be treated with one of the largest silent auctions at the event organized by the Special Kids banquet committee. Auction prizes include an autographed fiddle by Charlie Daniels, an American Girl Doll, tickets to Wild Wilderness at the Smokies, and other items from local shops and stores.
