Oct 08, 2013 at 04:30 am by bryan

The streets of Murfreesboro will welcome 3,000 half marathon athletes on Saturday, October 12 after selling out in just two hours in June.

“Due to last year’s fast sellout, we added 500 more spots to the field of athletes for 2013,” said Melinda Tate, race director. “The race has tripled in size since its inception in 2007.”

Spectators are encouraged to line the course to cheer on their family and friends. Approximately half of the athletes reside in Rutherford County with the remaining coming from 24 states across the country.

Children ages six to thirteen will have an opportunity to participate in Murph’s Fun Run, a one-mile race which will begin immediately after the half marathon start. Registration is limited to 250 fun run participants. Registration for Murph’s Fun Run will be available at the Chamber of Commerce Thursday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday from noon until 6 p.m., and before 7 a.m. on Saturday at the MTSU track.

The half marathon course goes down scenic tree-lined Main Street and Maney Avenue to Oaklands Historic House Museum. Runners will circle the Rutherford County Courthouse on the Square, pass by MTSU and the obelisk on Old Lascassas, and then finish on the MTSU track.
