Great American, Caring Leader: Leamon Flatt Dies

When Leamon Flatt passed away Saturday afternoon (9/8/2012), not only did our community lose a caring leader, but we lost a true flag waving American. In years past, the retired Church of Christ minister would be a featured guest on WGNS' radio shows on Flag Day, the 4th of July, Veteran's Day--any topic that promoted a love for America, you would find Leamon in the heart of it.

He was always proud of his ties with Jackson County, and would include those memories in his numerous broadcasts over WGNS. His popular "One Minute Flatt" radio feature would give a positive start to each day,  and his long-form program with his daughter Cindy was a popular morning show during the eighties and nineties. It often included his favorite musical group, the Flatt Sisters.

Leamon's family ties to Lester Flatt was proof that genes make a difference. His red, white and blue recitations would bring pride to the heart of any American.

For more than 60-years, Leamon had served as a Church of Christ minister in Middle Tennessee. He earned his BA Degree from David Lipscomb University, and attended Freed-Hardeman University, and received his Master's Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

A friend commented, "With Leamon's love for America, it's appropriate that his funeral is on Patriot's Day. Some things just don't happen by accident."

Visitation will be Monday afternoon from 4:00 until 8:00 that evening at Woodfin Funeral Chapel here in Murfreesboro. Funeral services are on Patriot's Day: 11:00 o'clock Tuesday morning (9/11/2012) at Woodfin and the burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
