In 2012, Tennessee issued 114,000 handgun carry permits for the year. Four years ago, officials said that number was only 62,000.
Officials say 50 percent more women ages 21 to 45 have their handgun permits.
Currently, to get a license to carry a handgun, one must do so in person at a local DMV. You will need to first take a state approved handgun carry class.
