Homeless Man On Side of Road Arrested

WGNS has been following the increase of homeless persons living in our community for the past two years and arrest reports show that Murfreesboro Police continue to crack down on homeless begging for money at intersections throughout the city. The only problem is that little can be done about those begging for money if the person asking for cash is off the roadway and in the grass.

Officers recently paid a visit to the I-24, South Church Street area where they met with William Carl Perkins who is homeless and who was seen asking passing motorist for money. Police told Perkins about the “Highway / Passageway Obstruction Law” which prohibits someone from actually standing in the roadway as opposed to standing on the side of the road with a sign. During questioning, police ran a warrants check on Perkins and it turned out that he was a fugitive from justice. The man was served three felony warrants and booked into the local jail without a bond. He was also wanted on a charge in North Carolina.
