House and Senate Democrats announced their policy plan for this legislative agenda calling it their "6 for '16".

The Democrat's "6 for '16" platform focuses on key issues that are important to all Tennesseans.

Government accountability, quality and affordable healthcare and making work pay are all issues that the people of Tennessee need to see progress on this year. Additionally Democrats will focus on public money for public schools, access to the ballot box, and criminal justice reform. The Tennessee Democrats know that a focused effort on these six issues is an effort that will improve the lives of all Tennesseans.

State House Democratic Caucus Chair, Mike Stewart described the plan. "This agenda focuses on the needs of the people of the State of Tennessee," he said. "These are issues that cross party lines and help all the people of the state. I believe that many Tennesseans are struggling across the state and this packet of legislation is designed to help them"

State Senate Democratic Minority Leader, Lee Harris echoed, "Democrats are focused on the big problems that affect regular people in Tennessee, like healthcare, transportation, public safety and education." He continued, "many of those on the other side of the aisle spend far too much time focused on wedge issues that feed the special interest groups, but aren't relevant to the vast majority of Tennesseans."

"As Democrats, we know that people matter," House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh added. "The people of Tennessee should be able to see a doctor, send their kids to good schools, and to earn a living wage. Jobs, healthcare and education are the pillars of the American Dream, and as officeholders it is our job to make this dream a reality for hardworking Tennessee families."

State Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini concluded by saying, "These six issues are at the heart of what Tennessee Democrats stand for every day. We work daily to create accountable and effective government, strong families and communities, and opportunity for all.
