Joe L. Russell, II Sentenced To 15-Months

On Thursday (11/16/2017) former Rutherford County Sheriff Chief Adminstrative Deputy Joe L. Russell, II was sentenced to 15-month on federal corruption charges.

In May, 2016, Russell, along with former Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and his uncle John Vanderveer were named in a 14-count federal indictment charging the trio with mail fraud, honest services fraud, wire fraud, bribery involving federal programs, extortion, obstruction of justice and conspiracy.

Later, on January 20th, Russell plead guilty and admited forming the JailCigs venture with Arnold and Vanderveer.

He was ordered to pay restitution amounting to $52,500, while forfeiting $52,234.41, the alleged amount of earnings he received from JailCigs, LLC.

Robert Arnold is currently serving a 50-month prison sentence. He too was order to pay the same restitution, along with his reported earnings of $66,790.

In September, John Vanderveer was sentence to one year and one-day.

Again, 50-year old Murfreesboro resident Joe L. Russell, II has been sentenced to 15-months in prison along paying restitution and returning the money earned from the venture. That total $104,734.41.
