Two Woodbury natives were honored at a statewide awards ceremony in Nashville on Wednesday for their long-time support of Murfreesboro nonprofit Journeys in Community Living.

Anne McBride and Faye Northcutt Knox, the mother and aunt respectively of Patrick McBride, a person supported by Journeys, were awarded the John Henry Family Award today at a Tennessee Community Organizations Awards of Excellence ceremony at the Preston Hotel in Nashville.

The family was nominated by Journeys in Community Living Executive Director Betty McNeely for the huge impact they've had on Patrick and other people with intellectual disabilities served by Journeys and other organizations.

They won out against several other deserving nominees from other TNCO organizations across the state.

"Ann every year donates a quilt to Journeys for our silent auction, which raises money for the people served by our organization," McNeely explained. " She has also served on our Human Rights Committee since its inception."

Knox has been on Journeys' board of directors twice, and lobbied for changes in state laws that benefit people with intellectual disabilities at the Tennessee Legislature for several years.

"She has also tirelessly represented us in various social circles around town, as well as promoted us to the United Way," McNeely said.

Ann's husband, John, and Faye's brother, Richard Northcutt, showed what a supportive family they are by attending the event with Ann, Faye and Patrick.

The family was also awarded $500 in addition to receiving the TNCO award, and immediately informed McNeely they would be turning the money over to Journeys for its mission.

"We are very lucky to have such quality individuals associated with us here at Journeys," McNeely said.

TNCO is a statewide trade association for service provider organizations like Journeys that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
