Occidental College has Class in Stupidity, Really
August 29, 2009
Occidental College isn’t home to the best and brightest. The school is offering a new class called Stupidity. The 100-level course is described as a, quote, “philosophical examination of those operations and technologies that we conduct in order to render ourselves uncomprehending.” Despite the fact it’s a class in stupidity, students will study the works of such brainiacs as FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, GILLES DELEUZE and AVITAL RONELL. The class is offered through Occidental’s Critical Theory and Social Justice program.Occidental, located in suburban Los Angeles, once counted PRESIDENT OBAMA among its students. He was enrolled from 1979-1981 before transferring to a school known for its smarts — Columbia University.

Got something to say?

This is a very dull and uninformative paragraph. It might be used as an example in Stupidity class to demonstrate the same type of stupidity as a t-shirt that says, “Kafka was born in Prague,” one in which the stupid reduce the quality and quantity of something (probably in order to squeeze it into his or her thick skull), and after barely absorbing only the tiniest sliver of knowledge, such as a birthplace, or the name and aim of a class, spit back out an ignorant and utterly useless comment with a false (or no) understanding of the essence of the thing. If the author of this paragraph had read or researched those “brainiacs” mentioned, he or she would find that Ronell wrote extensively on the subject of stupidity, and might even learn a thing or two from her brilliant texts. Also, you don’t need to say “quote” before you put something in quotes- I learned that before I ever came to Occidental and took Stupidity.
