A 24-year old La Vergne man has been charged with aggravated assault after pulling a B-B gun on a Murfreesboro Police officer. The incident happened Thursday just after 5:30 on South Lytle Street.

Zechariah Joseph Lane was arrested by Officer Eric Renfroe, who was answering a domestic disturbance call. According to the report, Lane told the officer he was assaulted Wednesday in La Vergne. Renfroe told him he'd have to file a report there.

During the course of the conversation, Lane reportedly told the officer he "carried" a handgun, but just for protection and it was at home. The suspect then walked away and the officer returned to his car.

Moments later, Renfroe noticed Lane putting a holstered handgun on his belt. That's when the officer asked for identification. After handing the officer his I-D, Lane allegedly took what appeared to be a black, semi-automatic handgun out of the holster and pointed it at Renfroe.

The officer then drew his gun and told Lane to drop his. According to the report, Lane said "it's fake," while handing it to the officer. It turned out to be a black plastic replica of a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 handgun. It was a B-B gun.

The officer reports due to being in fear of his own life, causing him to draw his weapon and believing it was real, Lane was arrested for aggravated assault. He was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and jailed on six-thousand dollars bond.
